Things To Do

Snorkeling and Scuba

The Meso-American Reef, one of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders, sits just a short distance from the picturesque shores of Ambergris Caye, offering easy access to a host of incredible snorkeling and diving opportunities. This vibrant, colorful ecosystem, the second-largest barrier reef on the planet, stretches for hundreds of miles along the coast of Belize, providing an underwater playground teeming with diverse marine life. Just a quarter mile or less from the island, visitors can immerse themselves in the reef’s magical splendor, swimming amongst schools of tropical fish, encountering majestic sea turtles, and even catching glimpses of the elusive nurse shark in the aptly named Shark Ray Alley. For those seeking to fully experience the reef’s wonders, the Hol-Chan Marine Reserve, a protected area renowned for its exceptional snorkeling, offers the perfect opportunity to witness the incredible biodiversity of this natural wonder. And for a more comprehensive Meso-American reef adventure, we highly recommend dedicating a half-day to exploring the charming sister island of Caye Caulker, where visitors can further indulge in the region’s vibrant culture, cuisine, and laid-back island lifestyle. With its proximity to the reef and abundance of aquatic attractions, Ambergris Caye truly stands out as one of the premier destinations for those seeking to discover the unparalleled beauty and ecological significance of the Meso-American Reef system.

Mainland Tours

Belize is a veritable wonderland of adventure and discovery, with a wealth of captivating mainland tours that showcase the country’s diverse natural and cultural wonders. For those seeking to delve into the rich history and legacy of the ancient Maya civilization, the numerous Mayan ruins scattered throughout the mainland offer a spellbinding glimpse into the past. Sites like Caracol, Xunantunich, and Lamanai transport visitors back in time as they wander through the crumbling stone temples, plazas, and palaces, imagining the bustling hubs of activity that once thrived here centuries ago. Beyond the archaeological marvels, Belize’s underground world also beckons thrill-seekers, with the mesmerizing experience of cave tubing allowing guests to gently float through vast, cathedral-like caverns adorned with dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. And for the truly adventurous, the country’s network of high-flying ziplines and rugged ATV trails provide an adrenaline-fueled way to soar through the jungle canopy or tear through the lush, rolling terrain. With so many options for immersive, hands-on exploration, it’s no wonder Belize is considered a top destination for mainland adventures – around every bend in the road lies another enchanting opportunity to discover the country’s boundless natural beauty and cultural richness.

Belize Zoo

The Belize Zoo is a unique and captivating wildlife sanctuary that offers visitors an up-close and personal encounter with the diverse array of animals native to the lush jungles and wetlands of Belize. Sprawled across 29 acres of natural habitat, the zoo is home to over 175 animals representing more than 45 species, each thoughtfully cared for by a dedicated team of conservationists and animal experts. As you wander the winding trails, you’ll be greeted by the piercing calls of howler monkeys, the lumbering gait of Baird’s tapirs, and the mesmerizing stare of the iconic Belize jaguar, the country’s national animal. The zoo’s emphasis on education and preservation shines through in the informative exhibits, which provide fascinating insights into the ecological importance and behavioral patterns of these magnificent creatures. Beyond simply observing the animals, the Belize Zoo encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the local ecosystem, offering opportunities to participate in guided tours, interactive workshops, and even hands-on experiences like feeding the resident scarlet macaws. With its commitment to wildlife rehabilitation, habitat restoration, and public awareness, the Belize Zoo stands as a shining example of how a small-scale conservation effort can have a profound impact on the protection and appreciation of Belize’s natural wonders.
